Blooperman Podcast, Episode 27: The Super Bowl 51 (LI) Prop Bets

It’s Super Bowl 51 (or Super Bowl LI, as it used to be known in simpler days) time, and in this episode of the Blooperman Podcast we take on the Super Bowl prop bets. You know, the stuff only experts would know – like who will score the first touchdown, what Lady Gaga’s first song will be during the halftime show and the surprising dicey proposition Luke Bryan faces when deciding whether or not to wear a hat while singing the National Anthem, among many other things.

We gave ourselves $1,000 blooper bucks to wager, and next week you’ll find out who took home the big money. Will it be Mike and his advanced statistical analysis? Ron and his gut-based rejection of logic? Or Drew, and his deep knowledge of the average length of the National Anthem? Hey, those sound like pretty good prop bets themselves…

Here’s a rundown of our bets:

Drew:

  • 59 total points scored – $100 for the under
  • Player who scores first touchdown – $100 each on Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman and Julian Edelman
  • Lady Gaga’s first halftime song – $100 on “Poker Face”
  • Length of National Anthem sung by Luke Bryan – $100 on under 2:15
  • Dion Lewis rushing yards – $100 under 40.5
  • MVP – $100 each on Tom Brady and Matt Ryan
  • First mention by MVP in postgame interview – $100 on team/teammates.

  • Matt Ryan rushing yards – $200 on over 5.5
  • Devonta Freeman receiving yards – $100 on over 35.5
  • Russell Westbrook scoring more in his game that day than New England scores that night – $100
  • Patriots to win and Matt Ryan being named MVP – $300

Ron:

  • 59.5 total points scored – $100 for the under
  • Lady Gaga’s first halftime song being something other than “Born This Way,” “Bad Romance,” “Edge of Glory,” “Poker Face” or “Just Dance” – $100
  • Length of National Anthem sung by Luke Bryan – $100 on under 2:15
  • Luke Bryan forgetting or omitting a word while singing the National Anthem – $100
  • Luke Bryan wearing a hate when he appears on screen before singing the National Anthem – $200 on no
  • Total punts – $100 on under 7.5
  • Falcons leading by 10 to 12 points at halftime – $100
  • Julio Jones or Devonta Freeman scoring the game’s first touchdown – $100 on each
  • First score of the game being a Patriots touchdown – $100

Read ’em and weep, Vegas.
